Stump Grinding Adelaide

A stump left in the ground is an ankle hazard, a mower wrecker and a slow termite invitation. It also pulls nitrogen out of the soil as it rots, which is why turf rolled straight over an ungrounded stump goes yellow within a season. Grinding the void out solves the lot in a single visit.

Side gate width sets the machine. A 750mm clear gate in an inner east courtyard takes the narrow access unit, which walks in on its own tracks and grinds down without a single paver lifted. A wide rear driveway in the foothills gets the full size grinder, which chews through the buttress roots on an old sugar gum in a fraction of the time. Either way I measure the stump, take a sight on the flare and price the job on diameter at ground level, species hardness and how deep below grade you want it.

Standard finish is 150 to 300mm below grade — enough for turf, paving sand or a shallow planting hole. Push to 400mm or deeper if a slab is going in over the top or you want to plant a fruit tree in the same spot. Chips from the grind either stay as mulch through the garden bed, get spread over the void, or come away on the truck if the look is wrong for the courtyard.
